About Cozumel

Cozumel is known universally for excellent diving and breath taking beaches. Cozumel is the largest island in Mexico, set along the Yucatan Peninsula in the Mayan Riviera, it is separated from the Playa Del Carmen by the Yucatan channel which is 11 miles wide. Cozumel island is 392 square km, 13 km wide and 34 km long.

Cozumel also has the reputation of being one of the finest scuba diving spots of the planet. Ever since Jacques Cousteau went to Cozumel, people have been coming to experience the great diving and underwater habitat and coral reefs. For beach goers, Paradise Beach is about 10 kilometers from San Miguel and offers free use of beach umbrellas and chairs, snorkeling equipment and kayaks.  It is an easy and quick cab ride downtown, the all-inclusive hotels and the cruise ship dock.

Cozumel is famed for its jewelery stores. Among the most visited are Rachat & Romero and Diamonds International , both offer excellent choices in diamonds, gold and silver jewelry.  Cozumel is safe. It is an island tightly policed and there are no incidents against tourists here. The law and military are ever present to keep things in order and the tourist police are there to help answer questions, in English.

Cozumel is a flat island based on limestone , resulting in a karst topography (landscape, characterized by caves, fissures, and underground streams) . The highest natural point on the island is less than 15 meters above sea level. Cozumel has a  limestone shore which is excellent for wall diving. The waters are temperate, crystal clear waters of stunning turquoise.

Located on the islands only hill, it has a spectacular view and offers light fare that is popular with scuba divers and casual diners. The highway ends at Mezcalitos Bar & Restaurant , the quintessential beach restaurant on the dramatically beautiful beach of Punta Este. Cozumel Mexico has a variety of intriguing activities, including scuba diving, snorkeling, golfing and a host of tours. The Mayans believed that the island held special powers to aid in fertility and childbirth.

For ‘all-inclusive’ Cozumel travel the island offers many choices providing the gain of having everything paid for prior to their arrival. All meals, drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), non-motorized water sports, and other comforts are included in package prices. All-inclusive Cozumel resorts, which include meals with the cost of the hotel, are becoming more common. Often times all-inclusive hotels offer Cozumel deals and excursions discounts on some of the most sought-after Cozumel activities like scuba, snorkeling, diving and trips to Playa Del Carmen.
